Maine’s 2018 Sea Duck Hunting Season is Fast Approaching!

At Thornehead Guide Service, we have been busily preparing for the upcoming Maine Sea Duck hunting season, which opens on November 12th this year.

Our Polar Kraft sea duck boat was recently updated with the latest electronics and our current boating gear and outboard motors have been checked, rechecked, and serviced. We also recently acquired a reliable, new 2018 RAM tow vehicle. Our dedication to detail helps us minimize breakdowns, especially later in the season when the weather conditions really test our equipment.

Every decoy and line has been inspected. Most are repainted or touched up and look great for our clients…and, of course, the birds!

It looks like this year will be another sellout. We have only one remaining set of hunt dates available for this season. We are currently accepting bookings for next season.

The Maine Eider numbers appear strong and there are plenty of Surf Scoters around at this time. The Long-Tailed Ducks (Old Squaws) will be arriving soon from their summer haunts to the North. Our clients who will be gunning puddle ducks this fall will welcome the increased Black Duck bag limits.

We continue to offer the best lodging package around through the Hilton Garden Inn-Freeport. The comfortable rooms, hot tub/pool, lounge, and restaurant are always a big hit with our clients. Located only two blocks from the LL Bean Hunting and Fishing Store, clients are able to pick up that last minute box of shells or pack of hand-warmers if desired.

While we have recently seen several Maine Sea Duck guide services closing up shop or cutting back on their services, we are still going strong after 20+ years in business. We have adapted to the ups and downs of the waterfowl guiding business over the years. Our clients continue to be treated to outstanding customer service and very successful waterfowl hunts. We continue to be a leader in this industry because we love what we do. We look forward to each season with the same enthusiasm as the last.
